This packet of everlasting daisies will be an amazing addition to your garden! It will cover a massive 60 sqm of your garden, and importantly, they will last for several years after planting. This is why they are called ‘the seven-year daisy’. They drop their seed on the ground and grow again the next year, and it is also very easy to collect their seeds for planting into a different area of your garden in the following years. Very cost effective!
They are so easy to grow!
Everlastings are an annual plant, growing to 60cm. The earlier you plant them, the taller they will grow. The later you plant them, the shorter they will grow, but still produce a beautiful flower later into the season. The growing plant is a very bright green indeed.
They are commonly seen in the arid areas of Western Australia, where they create an amazing display en masse every wildflower season. They have papery textured flower petals surrounding a yellow or black centre in shades of light pink, bright mid-pink, dark pink, and white. They also make an amazing sound when rustled by the wind.
Flowers are delightful and have a mind of their own! They have sturdy stems, however, unusually, they tend to droop just before they are about to flower. When in full bloom, they open in full sun but will close overnight, when raining, or when overcast. The flowers make a perfect cut or dried flower, lasting for at least a month in a vase. If you are drying them, they require storing in a dark and cool spot until the stems can support the flowerhead.
They are great for native gardens, mass plantings, arid environments, driveways, garden beds, and rockeries. Also perfect for a pot plant!
Everlastings are fast-growing, often germinating under warm and moist conditions in less than two days. They require very low maintenance once they are established and are tolerant of poor soil conditions, frosts, and drought. They are however, very susceptible to pest predation, especially snails, and control methods must be in place prior to germination. Fertiliser can be applied, but is not necessary! Stems can be removed after flowering, but not before they have ‘self-seeded’ and dropped their seeds on the ground, ready for regenerating the next season!
Once flowering, they are great for attracting bees.
